Mink catching course
The Tana River Basin Fisheries Management, together with Joddu, has invited Einar Pettersen, who has solid experience in catching mink, to share his knowledge about mink catching over a good cup of coffee next Tuesday.
American mink, which are found along our waterways, are a result of previous escapes from mink farms and pose a significant threat to waterway and coastal nature, both for fish, birds and amphibians, including salmon and sea trout. The Tana River Basin Fish Management is therefore paying a bounty of 750 NOK per mink and is seeking increased knowledge and more participants in the volunteer effort.
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced mink hunters who can also share their experiences.

The salmon needs mosquitoes too!
The salmon needs mosquitoes too!
Mosquitoes are an annoyance and what's worse... but with their long history on earth, they have more roles than just draining us and other animals of blood.
A little about species, how they live, and a little about what we don't know. This is a lecture about mosquitoes and mosquito diversity in Norway and Finnmark.
Paul Eric Aspholm from NIBIO will give an engaging lecture about the mosquito - which we all know but which we may not know enough about on Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 PM at the Wild Salmon Center.

Book launch - 100 travel tips with Siri Haugen
This book contains tips on food, packing, clothing, accommodation and much more.
100 hiking tips with Siri Haugen is a book with Siri's very best hiking tips. She wrote this book to get more people out into nature and to make them feel like they have something to do there.
The goal of this book is to inspire more people to go out and dare to take the next step, such as sleeping outside in the winter, going on a trip to a new place, or perhaps taking a friend or family member with you on a trip.
Siri Haugen is 17 years old. She is from Ålesund and has spent countless hours outdoors in nature and the mountains in Ålesund and Sunnmøre, but she has also gone on trips in the rest of the country and abroad.
– I created the book to get more people out into nature, and for them to feel confident in what they are doing, and maybe take the next step of going somewhere new.
She is very adventurous and moved to Tana in Finnmark at the age of 15 to attend high school on a national dog sledding course. Dog sledding has become a sport she loves and her dream is to do long-distance dog sledding when she grows up.
Can the humpback salmon be stopped in the Tana River by 2025?
Open information meeting about the humpback salmon project in 2025 in the Environmental Building, Tana Bridge, Thursday 19 June at 6:00 PM.
Organizer: Norwegian Environment Agency and Norwegian Veterinary Institute
Now it is just before the humpback salmon will once again enter the rivers of Finnmark, probably in large numbers. The state has allocated a lot of money to combat the alien species, which originates and lives naturally in the Pacific Ocean.
In the Tana River, work is now underway to get the final details on the trap to be ready to stop the humpback salmon while allowing the tana salmon and other local fish to migrate both up and down the river with the least possible impact. By the end of June, a barrier fence with several entrance traps and downstream migration solutions will be in place at Seida. In addition to the barrier solution itself, improvements have been made to a number of details compared to the barrier fence and guardrail that stood at Seidaholmen in 2023.
In collaboration with Tana Municipality and the Tana River Basin Fisheries Management (TF), the Norwegian Environment Agency and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute are arranging a final information meeting before this year's season. There will be interpretation between Norwegian and Finnish. Please forward the information about the meeting to friends on both sides of the border.
Preliminary program, 6:00 PM-8:00 PM:
Norwegian Environment Agency - status and plans for humpback salmon control nationally and in Tana, including monitoring, research and development
The Norwegian Veterinary Institute – status and implementation of humpback salmon control at Seida in 2025
TF's plans for humpback salmon harvesting in Máskejohka and Luovvtejohka in 2025.
