Nature guidance and dissemination

We offer nature guidance and nature-related communication for school classes, kindergartens and other groups.

Nature guidance for schools and kindergartens is free.

Submit a non-binding form by email to our Nature Guide to hear about opportunities or to arrange a nature guide.

Nature guide

We provide knowledge about nature and teach how to care for it. Schools and kindergartens receive free nature guidance.

We can carry out many nature guide activities and programs, such as: bottom hunting in the river, fishing fly tying courses, river boat safaris, overnight stays in the wilderness, fish dissection, drifting in the river with a dry suit, and ice fishing and snowshoeing in the winter.

Teaching and lectures can also be conducted.

We offer much more, if you have an idea you want to implement that is not listed, just get in touch. Only your imagination sets the limits.

Benthic animals

Benthic animals are animals that live at the bottom of rivers, streams and lakes. They are very important to the ecosystem, both as decomposers and as a food source for larger animals.

The program involves collecting fish in the stream and identifying the species found.

The program can also be carried out on the shore, where we can also use binoculars to see life underwater.

The program can be adapted to all ages.

Fish

Being able to fish is a great activity to learn about different types of fish, and is not least a good skill to have. Fishing is also fundamental to the culture in Norway, coastal and river fishing has long traditions in Norway, also especially in Tana.

We have had trips where, for example, students have rowed in old Nordland boats to fish in the Varangerfjord, or have gone ice fishing in lakes.

There are good opportunities for fishing, even though the river is closed. Skills like knowing how to cast a line and gut a fish are incredibly important to have.

Fly tying

The fly tying course involves why people tie flies, why they tie them the way they do, which animals the flies should imitate, and the basic techniques for tying flies.

Fly tying equipment is distributed at courses for loan.

Researching fish scales and ear stones

To find out the age and life history of a fish, you can look at the fish's scales and ear stones, also called otoliths.

The program involves an introductory lecture on fish anatomy, sampling of scales and otoliths, how to read fish scales and otoliths, and why this is done.

The practical part involves reading fish scales and otoliths under a microscope.
