Fishing and fishing licenses
Anyone who will be fishing in salmon-bearing stretches of the Tana River must, by law, purchase a fishing license before fishing begins. Persons who are 18 years of age or older must also pay a fishing fee to the state, and must present a receipt when purchasing a fishing license.
Fishing for salmon and sea trout in Tana will not be allowed in 2025.

Fishing for species other than salmon and sea trout is free for local fishermen . Although the card is free, the fisherman must be registered online in order to report catches.
Visiting fishermen can purchase daily, weekly and seasonal passes online.
There are different card and price categories for fishing for inland fish in the Tana River basin and fishing for sea trout in the estuary area (from the border between the river and the sea and to the outlet of Biehtárjohka (Beddarinesset).
