Before the salmon smolt sets out on its long journey to the sea, it must grow strong in the river. The Tana River is teeming with life – a hidden spawning ground that gives the salmon smolt the energy it needs to grow. Insect larvae and small animals provide a varied diet for the smolt. It is here, in the clear, flowing freshwater, that the salmon's journey truly begins.
