High fishing pressure

Overfishing of salmon occurs when fishing pressure exceeds the population's ability to reproduce. Both sport fishing and local fishing remove spawning fish and weaken the population. Even catch and release can be stressful, as many fish do not survive the release. Fishing must therefore be adapted to the river's production capacity.
